General Information

1. Description of existing networking facilities

1.1 Inter-campus networking

Describe in brief inter-campus networking facilities (if any) by specifying data communication links between campuses (or university’s main compound) and individual buildings outside the campuses (or main compound). Please specify for each link the points (buildings) connected by the link, the distance the link is bridging, the technology used and the capacity of the link.

If possible, include a schematic drawing!

We do not have.

1.2 Campus networks

Describe in brief the networks available (if any) at the various campuses facilities providing data communication connectivity to the individual buildings. Do not include the description of LANs at the individual buildings! Please specify buildings connected, distances, the technology used and capacities. If possible, include a schematic drawing!

128 kbps wire communication (dedicated line) link the library and the server (IBW building, outside the University), the distance between connected building is 2.5 kms.

64 Kbps wire communications (coax cable) link between e-mail and internet server at the library building and the computers lab (20 computers for internet service to the students and teachers) the distance between connected buildings: 350 mts.

128 kbps wire communication (dedicated line) link betwwen Health Master Building and his own computer lab (20 computers) for e-mail and internet service to students and teachers: distance of the dedicated line between Health Master Building and the server (IBW building, outside the University) is 2.5 kms.


1.3 LANs at the individual buildings

Describe in brief the Local Area Networks installed (if any) at the various buildings. Please specify the number of connection points, capacities and technology used.

Facultad de Ciencias:

a. 10 Mbps UTP LAN 31 connections (Lab 1 Pentium MMX)

b. 10 Mbps UTP LAN 22 connections (Lab 2 80386)

c. 10 Mbps UTP LAN 4 connections (Teacher´s room)

Facultad de Ciencias de la Educación y Humanidades:

a. 10 Mbps UTP LAN 10 connections (lab 3 Pentium 200 Mhz)

b. 10 Mbps UTP LAN 20 connections (lab 4 80486)

c. 10 Mbps UTP LAN 20 connections (lab 5 Pentium 133 Mhz)

Centro de Cómputo:

Biblioteca:

1.4 Connection to Internet/e-mail

Describe in brief the links (if any) the university does have to the Internet. Please specify the set-up, capacities and technology used.

The university does have various link to local internet service providers (ISP), but these are all links between individual departments and faculties and the ISP´s, we do not have a common internet facility serving all. Specification of the individual links:

Programa de Salud Sexual y Reproductiva: dedicated line to ISP IBW.

Biblioteca: dedicated line to ISP IBW.

Centro de Cómputo: dial up to the library

Facultad de Ciencias de la Educación y Humanidades : dial up to the library

Facultad de Ciencias : dial up to the libray.

Centro de Documentación (REDUC): dial up to telematix

Acedemics departments : dial up to the library

1.5 Internet/e-mail facilities for common use

Does the university have central Internet/e-mail facilities serving the various faculties, departments, etc? If the answer is yes, please specify briefly the configuration of the facilities, the location of the facilities and name the group responsible for operations and maintenance

The university does have internet facilities located at the Library building at the main campus exist a group of persons responsible for operation and maintenance the configuration consist of a e-mail server, a domain name server, a proxy server, using LINUX operating systems (all Intel computers running windows NT/ windows 95/98) and a dial up modem bank (16 ports) the facilities can be accessed both from the main campus and from outside the campus.

2. Other ICT resources

2.1 Describe briefly the major computerized information systems in use at your university. Please indicate the number (estimate) of end-users for each particular administration and if possible, the department considered the main user.

¨ A computerized financial Information System (5 years old), in use by the central financial administration. Estimated number of users of the system 12 persons.

¨ A computerized student´s grade control system in use by the computer center. Estimated numbers of user of the system 5 persons.

¨ Office automation programs such as MS office, in use by almost all faculties, departments, etc.

2.2 What is the number of PC’s in use within the administration (estimate):

The number of PC´s in use within the administration is estimated in: 150

2.3 What is the number of PC’s in use at the central library (estimate):

The number of PC´s in use at the central Library is : 10

2.4 What is the number of PC’s in use at for education and research (estimate):

Approximately 75 % of total number of PC´s is older than 2 years, 35 % of the total number consist of Intel 486 and Intel 586.

2.6 Please describe in brief the condition of the electricity supply system at your university:

Electricity supply is not very reliable, we are facing power supply up and down frequently.

3. ICT resources available outside the university

The following questions are related to ICT resources (expertise, services) which may be available outside the university but within the country.
